TAV Construction is a member of the TAV Group, which was established in 1997 when two leading Turkish groups, Tepe Group and Akfen Holding, joined hands to bid for (and award) the Build, Operate, Transfer (BOT) contract at Istanbul's new Atatürk Airport.

The immediate objective of the company was to pursue the first airport in Turkey to be developed under the framework of privatization using the BOT model and at the same time, the broader vision was to branch out into airport construction, financing, operations, advisory services and related management in the global arena.
